Advancing paediatric surgery through education and research

Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group

The Oncology Group is made up of Consultants and trainees with an interest or practice in Paediatric Oncology. The Group meets annually at the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group Winter Meeting. The Meeting provides a forum for members to be updated about current trials and practice, future trials and discussion about difficult cases. In addition the BAPS/CCLG Oncology Group co-ordinates an annual Paediatric Surgical Oncology Course.

Until 2010 the CCLG was the main body hosting clinical trials in Paediatric Oncology in the UK, either on its own or in conjunction with European and American organisations (International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP) and the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). Since 2010, research has primarily been co-ordinated through the National Institute for Health Cancer Research Network (NCRN) and the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) and their Clinical Studies Groups: the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (NCRI – CCLG) and the Sarcoma Study Group (NCRI – SG).

The Group has strong links with the International Society of Paediatric Surgical Oncology (IPSO) and the American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA).

The Group provides surgical input/membership of the NCRI- Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (NCRI-CCLG) and the tumour subgroups.
