Delegates will be welcomed to the congress with a drinks reception in the Foyer of the Sinopoli Hall (the main venue for the scientific sessions) and in the Foyer of the Risonanze Hall (poster area).  The dress code is informal.

PALAZZO BRANCACCIO - Viale del Monte Oppio 7, Largo Brancaccio, 82/a, Rome

Brancaccio Palace is the last Roman Patrician Palace built in 1880 in the heart of Rome.  Located on the Colle Oppio, near Emperor Nero's Golden Palace and the seven hills, between the Colosseum and the famous Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.  Princess Mary Elisabeth Field, the American wife of Salvatore Brancaccio, called on the services of the architect Gaetano Koch in 1879 to build the palace.  The Palace contains enchanting banqueting rooms where sumptuous parties were held.  The Palace was fully restored in 1969 and is today considered to be one of the most beautiful in Rome.

The venue can be easily reached by public transport: Bus routes 16, 360, 649, 714 or Underground metro A Vittorio Emanuele Stop & Metro B Cavour Stop.  Dress code is jacket and tie.

TERRAZZA CAFFARELLI - Palazzo Caffarelli-Clementino, Capitoline Hill, Piazza del Campidoglio, Rome

The Capitoline Hill is the most sacred of the Seven Hills of Rome. Since the sixth century BC, the Temple of Jupiter Optimus  Maximus Capitolinus was located upon this Hill and the surrounding area was the centre of the political and religious life during the Roman Republic and Empire.  After the fall of the Roman Empire, Popes and Emperors ascended to the Piazza at the top of the Capitoline Hill  on horseback up a stepped ramp, known as the Cordonata.  The steps, Piazza and buildings on top of the Capitoline Hill were designed  by Michelangelo.  The Palazzo Caffarelli was begun in 1538 and completed in 1680.  From the Terrazza you will have the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular view of Rome at Sunset, especially the view of the Roman Forum and the right bank of the Tiber, along with the unmistakable skyline of Rome with its cupolas and domes.

Once arrived in Piazza Venezia, looking at the Vittoriano, you will see two flights of steps. Climb on the second one called Cordonata to arrive on the Piazza del Campidoglio, turn right through the Ancient Portal, you will then arrive in Caffarelli Square, on the left wyou will see the entrance for the Terrazza Cafferelli.

The narrow streets do not allow buses to go to the top of the Capitoline Hill.  If you cannot manage the stairs, you can catch a taxi to the top.
