Background

The Simpson Smith Memorial Lecture is one of the highlights of the UK Paediatric Surgical Calendar and this will be the 69th lecture in memory of Alexander Simpson Smith who was a surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Together with the lecture is a paediatric surgical symposium named for two of Great Ormond Street Hospitals most well-known recent surgeons.

The morning of the symposium will be dedicated to controversies in paediatric surgery whilst the afternoon will cover minimally invasive surgery, the topic of the memorial lecture.

 

Simpson Smith Memorial Lecture

This year’s memorial lecturer will be Professor Dr. med. Benno M. Ure from Hannover, Germany who is internationally renowned as an expert in minimally invasive surgery, fast track surgery and immunomodulation. He is Editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Paediatric Surgery and a past-president of both EUPSA and IPEG.
