Consultant Paediatric Surgeon Job, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Paediatric Surgeon based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW) in Cardiff, providing for a regional paediatric surgical service across South and Mid Wales. A special interest in one or more of the following - gastrointestinal surgery / minimally invasive surgery / oncology - is desirable to complement existing service provision. The successful candidate will be able to access mentorship support where appropriate.

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Paediatric Surgeon based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW) in Cardiff, providing for a regional paediatric surgical service across South and Mid Wales.

A special interest in one or more of the following – gastrointestinal surgery / minimally invasive surgery / oncology – is desirable to complement existing service provision. The successful candidate will be able to access mentorship support where appropriate.

Acute paediatric surgical services for Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are provided at the University Hospital of Wales. The Children’s Hospital for Wales on the UHW site was opened in Spring 2015, providing new paediatric surgical theatres, outpatient clinics, radiology suite, in-patient accommodation and critical care facilities.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Academic interests in clinical research / postgraduate teaching will be encouraged; new facilities for paediatric research / simulation are available on site. Undergraduate teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University’s School of Medicine is valued and encouraged.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT or CESR(Combined Programme) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £72,927 per annum to £94,679 per annum plus a further £25,632 per annum available in Commitment Awards.

Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
