CHANGES AT THE JOURNAL OF PEDIATRIC SURGERY
After 18 unprecedented years as the UK and Ireland editor for the Journal, I am stepping down from this role. I thought I was irreplaceable, and it turns out that I am! The publishers from now on, will accept UK and Irish submissions but direct them now to the Editor for Europe – Prof Augusto Zani. So that’s one in the eye for BREXIT! Ironically, he is actually based in the USA but is still undeniably European and worked in the UK for a long time.
Now, as most UK submissions actually occur in relation to the BAPS Congress some things will stay the same. I will be remaining as the Special Editor for the BAPS Congress. The next is in Manchester in June (17th -19th JUNE) by the way and we are expecting a flood of submissions in association with the abstracts accepted. Hopefully these will be declared by the beginning of March with a deadline of the 24th MAY.
Last year we trialled a more direct way of submission via the website, which may have been a little challenging but worked for the majority. This year it will be the same. See guidelines on the Congress website and also details in the acceptance letter.

Lastly, I welcome any volunteers for reviewing duties associated with the Congress Edition. The duties are active reviews of papers (~20-40) submitted in a three week period until the congress starts and a 2-3 early morning committee commitment. This year there will also be a couple of cans of Boddingtons “the Cream of Manchester”, black pudding and tripe on the breakfast table – as an extra incentive!
Please write to me if you are interested to make your case
