In this course, we will discuss some general principles of assessment, and focus on writing multiple choice questions (MCQs) and objective standardised clinical examinations (OSCEs). We will then finish by touching on standard setting for MCQs and OSCES, that is, on how the pass mark for an assessment is determined. The course will be small, include discussions and interactions, and above all else, it will be practical, giving you the skills you need to write high quality assessments.
After this course, you should be able to:
- Write fair and discriminatory MCQs
- Write effective OSCE stations
- Explain the main principles of assessment and standard setting
