The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Birmingham Regional Centre
85 - 89 Colmore Row, Birmingham, B3 2BB, 31st March 2023
Target audience:
Consultants, clinical or educational supervisors, TPDs, who support trainees preparing for the FRCS exam / complete references for trainees preparing for the FRCS exam
Purpose:
To help trainers to best support and prepare their trainees for sitting the FRCS Section 1 exam
There has been a trend towards reducing pass rates for the FRCS Section 1 examination over the past few years, with a particularly low pass rate of just 14% in the last sitting. BAPS are trying to explore many options to aim to improve this. As discussed at the Winter Meeting, one of our goals is to update consultant supervisors on changes to the curriculum and the exam to help them to best support and prepare trainees for the Section 1 exam. This training day will cover the roles of the SAC and JCIE, updates to the curriculum in line with the Shape of Training review and how exam questions are written, reviewed and edited.
