This 2 day course at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow is for trainees anticipating a career in surgery and preparing for basic surgical examinations. This course has been designed to introduce surgical trainees to safe surgical practice within a controlled workshop environment and it aims to teach, assess and certify the ability of trainees to use safe and sound surgical techniques that are common to all forms of surgery.
This is the new, fifth edition of the Intercollegiate course that runs over two days. It is for trainees anticipating a career in Surgery and preparing for basic surgical examinations. The course aims to teach safe operating techniques and stresses the importance of precautions for safe theatre practice.

- Gowning and gloving
- Handling instruments
- Knots
- Suturing techniques
- Haemostasis
- Handling bowel
- Abdominal closure and drain insertion
- Skin lesion and LA techniques
- Cytology techniques and biopsy
- Fine tissue handling
- Electro-surgery
- Wound management
- Endoscopic surgery
All delegates will receive a CD Rom and pre-course handbook and certificate of attendance.
