FRCS Exam Dates

Format:
Part 1:
– Written
– Paper 1 120 Single Best Answer (2 hours 15 mins)
– Paper 2 120 Single Best Answer (2 hours 15 mins)
Part 2:
Examination format (to July 2022):
Clinical examinations
- 30 minutes of Short Cases
- 3 x 10 minutes each of Neonatal Surgery, Oncology and Urology
- 30 minutes of Long Cases
- 2 x 15 minutes each of Emergency/Trauma and General/Gastrointestinal
- No patients will be present. Clinical Scenarios are used for each case.
Oral examinations
- Three Structured Interview Scenarios to include the following:
- Oral 1 [40 minutes]
- Urology
- Urology & Neonatal Urology
- Oral 2 [40 minutes]
- Oncology & Endocrine
- General & Gastro-Intestinal Surgery
- Oral 3 [40 minutes]
- Neonatal Surgery
- Emergency Surgery & Trauma
Examination format (from August 2022):
Clinical examinations
- 45 minutes of Short Cases
- 3 x 15 minutes each of Neonatal Surgery, Oncology and Urology
- Clinical Scenarios will be used for each case.
- 45 minutes of Intermediate Cases
- 2 x 15 minutes Cases with patients
- 1 x 15 minutes Clinical Scenario on Emergency/Trauma and General/Gastrointestinal
